Pakistan: Car Bombing Death Toll Climbs; 146 Also Wounded In The Explosion (VIDEO)

KARACHI, Pakistan -- Shiite Muslims in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi demanded government protection Monday from a wave of violence that has targeted the minority sect, a day after a massive bombing in the city killed 45 people.

The bomb exploded on Sunday evening as people were leaving a mosque in this port city, and underlined the increasing threat Shiites face as Sunni militant groups target them in ever-bolder attacks. There was no immediate claim of responsibility but Sunni militant groups who do not consider Shiites to be true Muslims have carried out such attacks in the past.

At least 146 people were also wounded in the explosion and 32 of them remain in serious condition, said Dr. Jalil Qadir, a Pakistani surgeon.

Thousands of people thronged a main road in Karachi Monday for a funeral service for 15 Shiite Muslims killed in the attack. Many beat their chests and heads and chanted "Stop the brutal attacks!" They called on the government to take action against militant groups responsible for the attacks.

"Terrorists are killing us everywhere, but the state is nowhere to be seen," said Intizar Hussain, whose father died in the bombing.

It was the third mass casualty attack since the beginning of the year against Shiites. The first two killed nearly 200 people in the southwestern city of Quetta, which is home to many Hazaras ? an ethnic group comprising mostly Shiite Muslims who migrated from Afghanistan more than century ago.

Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, a Sunni militant group known for its virulent hatred of Shiite Muslims, claimed responsibility for the two attacks.

Last year was one of the most deadly for Shiites in the country's history. According to Human Rights Watch, more than 400 Shiite Muslims were killed in targeted attacks across Pakistan in 2012. This year could turn out to be even more dangerous with nearly 250 Shiites already killed in the three attacks.

Pakistan's intelligence agencies helped nurture Sunni militant groups like Lashkar-e-Jhangvi in the 1980s and 1990s to counter a perceived threat from neighboring Iran, which is mostly Shiite. Pakistan banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi in 2001, but the group continues to attack Shiites.

After the most recent attack in Quetta, the government launched a number of operations against the militant group and detained the founder of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, Malik Ishaq.

In an apparent attempt to deflect criticism, Interior Minister Rehman Malik has repeatedly lashed out at government officials in Punjab province where the group is based and said that they had failed to crack down on militant groups in the province.

Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf condemned the bombing late Sunday and ordered an inquiry into how the bombing was carried out. But for many Pakistanis, these phrases ring hollow after so many attacks.

"Go ask the sleeping government to wake up. Our brothers and sisters are dying every day. But the government is doing nothing. This government is sleeping," said Shagufta Rasheed, a resident of Karachi.

Karachi shut down on Monday for a day of mourning to honor the dead. Markets, gas stations and transportation were closed as security officials patrolled the streets. At the site of the blast, family and friends looked through the rubble for family members missing since the explosion.

"I am here to look for my relative," said Farzana Azfar. "People say he was here. But people say they have no idea about him. It appears that some bodies are still in the rubble."

Government Job Search Techniques for Rural Indian Women | Fast ...

India is a traditional country in which women are coming out of their shells, only recently. The IT boom in the country paved way for many young women to study further and earn a job. While the urban women have been exposed to various kinds of job opportunities from the previous generation, the employment market still seems a very scary one for the rural women. Such women who have little exposure to outer world can try their luck in the government jobs. It doesn?t require very high English fluency. Here are a few important guidelines helping rural women to streamline their government job search.

1. Start planning your future right from a very early stage in your life. Survey the public sector job opportunities in and around your area. Plan your study accordingly.

2. Focus your government job search on fields like teaching, medical services and studies related to accounts and commerce. Most of the villages have severe shortage of doctors, teachers and people willing to serve in the rural branch of the banks. You can easily fulfill this gap if you choose to particular subjects.

3. Make it a habit to visit your local government library regularly. The library will have journals like Employment News which will list all the vacancies in the public sector. They will help you a lot in the government job search.

4. Start preparing for the UPSC and other state government oriented exams from the first year of your college. Check how the examinations are conducted throughout your study. Gather the various years question papers. Talk with your seniors appearing for such exams and improvise your preparation.

5. There are lots of quotas allocated for rural women in these jobs. There are quotas for poor women, daughters of farmers, daughters of widowed mothers, first generation graduates and community based grants for women. Make full use of this advantage in your government job search campaign. Check with your teachers and village administrative officers and get all the necessary documents ready before you appear for the exams.

6. Remember the early bird gets the fruit. The sooner you apply for such jobs, the better chance for you to land them earlier. If possible engage yourself in the part-time jobs related to the job you are planning to apply. You can show this as a previous experience when you appear for the final interview.

Landing in a public sector job is no rocket science. Comparing to the efforts taken by the urban youth to enter into institutions like IIT, these efforts are very limited. Try your level best for guaranteed success.

Government Job?is the ultimate dream for many rural Indian women. Here is a professional career preparation and?job search?guide which will make their dreams come true.

Best Buy announces fourth quarter net loss of $377 million, no rescue bid coming from founder

It's a hard time to be in the tech-retail sector, a fact that Best Buy knows all too well. The business has announced a fourth quarter net loss of $377 million on revenues of $16.7 billion. Incoming CEO Hubert Joly was upbeat despite the bad numbers, saying that the company's domestic sales helped offset its failures overseas. At the same time, Best Buy announced that founder Richard Schulze's attempted bid to buy back his company had failed, as the deadline for his offer expired at the end of February. As such, the company will now concentrate on turning a profit without any Apple store-style reinvention.

Horsemeat found in four new products

Four beef products sold by Bird's Eye, Taco Bell and catering supplier Brakes have been found to contain horse DNA, the Food Standards Agency says.

This is the third wave of test results received by the FSA, which has now received a total of 5,430 test results.

Meanwhile, new tests conducted on beef retail products revealed no new cases of horsemeat adulteration, the British Retail Consortium (BRC) has said.

This latest round of tests saw 1,797 products being examined.

The FSA has asked retailers to test beef products for the presence of more than 1% of horsemeat, with anything above that figure considered to be a sign of adulteration.

Its latest results have found that more than 99% of tests show no horse DNA at or above the level of 1%.

The affected products are Birds Eye's Traditional Spaghetti Bolognese and Beef Lasagne - which the company took of shelves last week as a precaution; Brakes' Spicy Beef Skewer; Taco Bell's Ground Beef.

'Let down'

Taco Bell has three outlets in Britain and says all its affected stock has been removed. The products had come from a supplier in Europe, the company said.

A spokesman for Taco Bell said: "Once we learned of this issue, we immediately voluntarily tested our product for our three Taco Bell restaurants in the UK.

"Based on that testing, we learned ingredients supplied to us from one supplier in Europe tested positive for horsemeat.

"We immediately withdrew it from sale, and discontinued purchase of that meat and contacted the Food Standards Agency with this information. We apologise to our customers and take this matter very seriously as food quality is our highest priority."

Birds Eye said in a statement: "We are introducing a new ongoing DNA testing programme that will ensure no minced beef meat product can leave our facilities without first having been cleared by DNA testing."

Brakes, which is based in Ashford, Kent, said: "Our testing programme represents a significant proportion of all results the FSA has obtained from across the food industry.

"Brakes have also segregated a frozen burger as a precaution after equine DNA at 1% was reported to the Food Standards Agency."

It said it was "very disappointed to have been let down" by suppliers and that it "sincerely apologised to our customers."

Meanwhile, fast food chain McDonald's announced that none of its meat products had tested positive for horse DNA, adding customers could "continue to trust in the quality of food" served at its restaurants.

Retailer tests

The BRC says 95% of its members' products have been checked, including all minced beef lines used by the UK's largest supermarkets.

There have been 361 tests on 103 products carried out since 22 February.

The trade organisation represents a range of retailers, including supermarkets and independent shops.

A total of 1,889 tests have been carried out by BRC members since 20 January, with 0.3% of them finding traces of horsemeat.

The BRC's food director, Andrew Opie said: "The UK's major supermarkets, and a number of other BRC-member food businesses, have now tested all existing processed minced beef products.

"The reassuring news is that another intensive week of testing has produced no new positive results. And, since this testing programme started in mid-January, just a third of 1% of products have tested positive."

Food withdrawals

Horsemeat was first discovered in January in frozen burgers on sale in the UK and the Republic of Ireland, and since then traces have been discovered in processed beef products and prepared meals across the EU.

A first wave of tests on beef products sold in the UK found horsemeat in some products sold by Aldi, Co-op, Findus, Rangeland and Tesco.

Subsequent rounds of testing revealed adulteration in some products sold by Asda, Sodexo - which supplies food to schools, care homes and the armed forces - and the Whitbread Group.

Last week Ikea withdrew a batch of frozen meatballs from sale in the food section of stores in the UK, and other European countries, after tests in the Czech Republic found traces of horsemeat in those products.
